Oxygene LysekilLysekil is the first divecenter in the Oxygène group and dates back to '96. Since the beginning of 2005 the owner is Daniel. With a big love for the ocean, boats and diving he moved to Lysekil from Örebro. The divecenter has three directions: We have our dive boat “Fourth Element” that takes you out to all the beautiful dive sites. The store with gear and all other necessities for the diver. We also have courses from entry level up to instructor. One of the favourites is the marine life specialty for Swedish waters!
Lysekil is located about 1,5 hour drive north of Gothenburg. The Landscape is breathtaking, where the cliffs meet the ocean. On the photo below you can see the south harbour and the dive center in the middle of it. All the small islands out to the open see are our beautiful dive sites. Släggö, Swedens most dived place is the round island to the left on the photo with the small connection to land that you can walk on. Here you will find a nice dive site for courses or check-out-dives. We even have lobster and sometimes octopus on the house reef!
Location
To the right on the photo you have the town center with restaurants and shops. In the middle of Lysekil you can see the majestic church that is visible from far away from the shore. A perfect landmark for both ancient and modern sailors.
Right outside the divecenter you find "Gullmarn", the only real fjord i Sweden. It offers unique diving. The marine life inside and outside the fjord is very different. On as little as 20 meters depth inside the fjord you will find aquatic life that normally lives at 60 meters in the ocean! Lysekil is a small picturesque fishing town with a archipelago that stretches out into the sea. Do not be surprised if you see seals sunbathing on the cliffs in between the dives. Spring is the time for you if you want to see the ocean explode with little ones. During the summer the town have a high pulse with lots of boats and people. In the autumn you will have the water still warm from the summer.
Welcome onboard our dive boat Fourth Element The dive boat in Lysekil is a “Brandskär 28”, named Fourth Element. She is 9 meters long and 3 meters wide. A 285 horsepower diesel engine takes up to 12 divers out to all the beautiful divesites outside and inside the fjord in Lysekil. The speed of the boats makes the diving very flexible and we have a wide variation of divesites to choose from depending on the experience and desires of the divers. The boat noramlly comes in to the divecenter in between the dives to fill the tanks and to have lunch. There is a dry area on the boat if you wish to bring your camera etc.
Strand hostel Oxygène Lysekil is in close cooperation with the hostel “Strand” right across the road from the divecenter. Here the divers and their families can have low price accomodation in a picturesque style. All rooms have wc and shower. You also get a nice breakfast and you can rent linnen if you dont want to bring your own. (Sleepingbags are not allowed).
In Lysekil you will find a hotel that is called “Havshotellet”, it means ~ the Ocean Hotel. The owners have decorated every room in a personal manner. For example you can get the maid Hannas room, the king Oscar II´s room or the Captains room. Every room with its unique style and details.
For diving during the spring and late autumn go for your dry suit. During the summer and the start of the autumn your 7mm wet suit will be good. Always dive with a hood and gloves.

Seasons in Lysekil In Sweden you will find a fairly even weather in general for every season. On the west coast however mother nature shows a swift side. The weather can change fast due to the fact that the open ocean is right outside. This means that some kind of wind jacket is a good thing to have if you want to walk along the cliffs. In the springtime, March and April are the months for colder winds and water temperature. This gives the diving a very nice advantage in terms of visibility. During May the temperature rizes rapidly both on land and in the water. The marine life explodes and the sea bed turns into a nursery. In May it is ok to dive with a thick wet suit. During the summer the west coast of Sweden fills with boats and people. The absolute peak is during the Swedish holidays which is from Midsummer, the weekend week 25 in June, to the first week in August. When the autumn comes the water still holds the temperature longer that you think. The sun still warms the cliffs in September and often all the way in October. Your wet suit is still good for diving in September. Also those nice days in October it will do! For November bring your dry suit.
In Lysekil you will find restaurants that serve the catch of the day, shell fish and all other delicious dishes the ocean has to offer. If you visit Lysekil during the autumn, be sure not to miss the lobster! Restaurants with Tapas, pizza, pasta, vegetarian, chinese and of course typical swedish “husmanskost” is also to find. For the thirsty diver there is also a couple of nice pubs in Lysekil.
Next to the divecenter is one of Swedens biggest aquariums. Take a close look at the marine life you can meet in the open ocean. This is a good chanse to learn more about every little thing you see when you dive in Lysekil.
Granite Make sure you don´t miss a Swedish sunset over the ocean and islands during your stay in Lysekil. The colour of the cliffs will turn to burning red. The cliff that is all over the west coast is granite. A extremely hard rock that used to be an important export product for Lysekil for many years. You can still see the places for the quarries around Lysekil. It is a very nice walk over the hard granite and there even is a national park, Stånge huvud, for the granite in Lysekil with spectacular views where the cliffs meet the ocean.
One of the biggest things to experience on the west coast of Sweden is the fishing for lobster. The first Monday after the 20th of September is the time when the fishing starts. Everywhere you will see people putting their cages in order. The day after the premiere you will find colourful buoys around every island and reef. The diving just before the lobster-premiere is the best time of the year to see the lobsters in all there pride. As big as they get.
Midsummer The weekend of w.25. This is the time of the year when the young Swedish population travel back to the stage of neandelthals... For the family this is the time for good food and good company and of course good dancing around the midsummer-pole. Nothing is open during midsummer except for hotels and pubs. If you want to visit Sweden during this time of the year please take in to consideration that every Swede is on the road and that most things will be fully booked a long time ahead.
Equipment If you have a long way to travel it isn´t always convenient to bring all your equipment. Normally divers do not bring their tanks and weightbelts. Some prefer not to bring anything at all. Whatever you choose to bring, the rest we have for you to rent. Make sure you book your equipment in advance to get your sizes!
Transfers We can arrange transfer to and from the airport or trainstation. A taxi from Gothenburg airport to Lysekil costs about 1800-2800 SEK depending on company and time of the day. By car it takes 1-2 hours to get to Lysekil depending on the Gothenburg traffic.
